Word Lens Drags the World into the Future Kicking and Screaming

Are we seeing things? We all laughed in the office when we saw the Word Lens video, but only in disbelief at how amazing the concept of the whole thing was.
Available for iPhone 3GS and later models (iOS 4.0 onward required) and the fourth generation of iPod touch, Word Lens can decipher foreign languages in real time when you point the application at a sign or text written in a language you don’t understand.

The results are instantaneous and infectious. We want to point it at anything and everything just to see what is an incredibly seamless language translation service. We’re excited by its implications. It could effectively open up a whole new audience to the exciting world of travel and give them more confidence to learn a new language.
Within minutes of its release on 16 December 2010 most of the world new about Word Lens thanks to its viral campaign across a wealth of social media services. Videos appeared of the amazing technology in action and the film quickly spread throughout Twitter, fast becoming a trending topic. The thing is though, there are thousands of amazing inventions appearing across the world on a daily basis. What did Word Lens do that was so different?

Easy – they kept it simple whilst sprinkling a little bit of flair onto the presentation. Developers Quest Visual have created an app that will be incredibly useful for a different range of services, and that’s what they’ve focused on most in the video. Why bother dressing it up with things that don’t matter, such as a mass of actors or useless information, when you can show the technology working practically in a real setting?
The app itself does the talking. They haven’t needed to busy the user with anything else other than giving a mouth-watering demonstration of what Word Lens can do. Word of mouth did the rest.
It’s an excellent example of the rewards you can reap if your SEO marketing campaign is lucky enough to go viral and touch every corner of the planet. We can’t wait to see how Word Lens develops in the future.
